Portrait n°9: Fabienne Anthes

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Fabienne Anthes, I am 34 years old and I come from Ludwigshafen am Rhein, a town in South-West Germany not that far from Alsace. I currently work as a graphic designer and layout designer for the German tattoo magazine TätowierMagazin. Originally I studied visual communication with a focus on illustration and book design. I am also very lucky that I have been connected to the underground comics scene for more than twelve years now. I used to work for a comic festival in Switzerland and I still do freelance jobs for two publishing houses several times a year. This way I can keep myself updated with the comics scene.

Portrait n°8: Flora Amalie Leonardo Pedersen

Please introduce yourself.

Flora Amalie Leonardo Pedersen, I’m 35 and I am the manager and co-owner of the tattoo studio Conspiracy Inc. in Berlin. Besides that I’ve always been a pretty crafty person. I like making stuff, and I switch mediums a lot. For years I was really into millinery, and I love drawing, painting, and taking analog photos. I probably got my interest for interior decoration from my parents. I grew up in a very colorful and creative home, decorated by artist parents. So I’ve always known that it was ok to not live like everybody else, and it’s ok to do stuff just cause it looks cool, everything doesn’t have to have a practical function. Our previous studio in Copenhagen was where I really started to notice that I maybe had an idea about what I was doing, and now when I decorate a room, I feel pretty confident that I can turn it into something fun.

Portrait n°7: Yannick Piters

Please introduce yourself.

Yannick Piters, I’m 38 years old and I have been a piercer at Art Corpus for the past ten years. How would I define my life? I must have been 28 when I came to Paris. I lived in Orléans for fifteen years, and when I realised I had seen it all, I left. It was totally baffling for my parents. I was a miller-turner full time and I told them I was leaving to become a piercer in Paris from one day to the next.

I made my choices, and it wasn’t easy, but I think in the end I managed to make good for myself. I’m very happy I did it. Even if I’d failed, I’d still be happy about it, because I would have done something. Same with music, I’ve been in a bunch of bands that never became anything, but I didn’t care, I tried. Making things is what drives you forward.

Portrait n°6: Joey Ortega

Please introduce yourself.

Joey Ortega, age 29 from Austin, Texas. My profession, more or less my life, is tattooing. I’ve been tattooing for just a little over 10 years now and don’t plan on stopping any time soon. Aside from tattooing I work on all kinds of other projects as well, painting, drawing, building vintage cars, jewelry design and fabrication. Too many things to name honestly, I’ve got a lot of irons in the fire. Presently I started a personal sketchbook, something where I can work on developing my own ideas and concepts, as well as work on things I would like to improve on.  This started as a desire to draw for fun again with out any client direction. I find myself submerged in doing nearly all of my drawings for someone other than myself lately, so I decided I needed to do so again. People has been asking me for years if I would sell my sketch books, so when I feel I have the amount of content that I feel is enough, I’m planning to make a printed book of my sketches, notes and in the back portion of the book there will be a few pages that show my process from sketch to final tattoo.

Portrait n°5’s testimonial

“I see Inspired as an honest and intelligent portrayal of the world of quality tattoos and the people who posses them by the author. The reason I was drawn towards Inspired was the integrity and dedication with which Céline approached the project. Her genuine care and insight into each of the people she photographs shines throughout all of the work she produces. Inspired is not only interesting but allows people such as myself to see how far and wide the community which we belong to reaches. The quality and standard of the work I believe speaks for itself, not only through the images produced but by the personal touch that accompanies each portrait. I am truly grateful to be a small part of Inspired and to have witnessed firsthand the creation of something so striking and honest.”

Danny Woodruff

Portrait n°5: Danny Woodruff

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Danny Woodruff, I’m 26 years old and I’m from Lincoln, England. I currently work as a research scientist at the University of Bordeaux focusing on the area of molecular magnetism. My passions outside of tattooing include science and reading. I love reading fantasy and science fiction novels as well as anything to do with tattoo history. I’ve been obsessed with science since I was a child. I loved finding out how things worked and why things happened. For me science is the most awe inspiring thing I have ever come across. I was firstly attracted to chemistry like most chemists are by bright colours and explosions and after studying for seven years and continuing in research have found that my love for chemistry keeps on growing. My job as a research chemist lets me create whilst at the same time trying to understand some of the fundamental aspects of the universe. I love it because I can make things that are completely unknown whilst at the same time advancing my own and hopefully other people’s knowledge of the world around us.
